About Vanessa

Welcome to Virtual Anthropologist. I’m Vanessa, and I despise formal headshots, so I don’t currently have one for this site.

I have a Bachelors Degree in Anthropology from the University of Queensland, and in 2016 I competed a Graduate Certificate in Social Change and Development at the University of Newcastle.

Not sure what that means? Basically that I have a very heavy academic background that emphasises research and analysis. Throw in experiences in all different types of industries and organisations: small businesses, professional associations, universities, consultancies, multinational companies, governments and not-for-profits, and you have a person with a mix of skills that can be applied to nearly any kind of business.

I have worked in research jobs at Community and Personal Histories (within the Qld State Government), at Link-Up Qld; and worked in Cultural Heritage Management on the Santos GLNG Pipeline.

The wonderful thing about anthropology is that once you have the mindset of analysis, you never really stop. Which means that any role I have taken, I am thinking, studying and learning. The sum of my experiences and my education in analysis is what I bring to the table.

I have a particular interest in social program design and evaluation – I love reading, analysing, and (most importantly) seeing positive and sustainable social action. My current personal favourite program is the #itsinthebag Christmas drive by Share The Dignity, as it is simple, personal and very effective.
